The Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Partnerships offers credit-bearing internships with local startup companies in Broome County. Registering through the CDCI department, these internships are semester long, and the time commitment depends upon the amount of credits you have available. HATCH also offers up to 5 paid internship positions per semester for 3rd and 4th year students.

Once the application window closes, applications will be reviewed. Your resume will be compared to the qualifications listed in the internship descriptions provided by our partner companies. If there is at least one match, you will be submitted for a guaranteed interview with that company (or companies). From there, the company decides which student(s) they would like to work with for the semester.

If you make it to Round 2 (the direct interview stage) but have not been contacted within 10 business days, please reach out to [email protected].

If you are selected for a stipend-based internship, one-third of your stipend will be disbursed monthly, beginning after the first 30 days of your internship.

Up to five students in the program per semester are eligible for a stipend. Each stipend is $1,500.

No. Because this is a stipend-based experiential learning program, CPT authorization is not required.

Yes. During the fall and spring semesters, students may work a maximum of 20 hours per week. Over the summer, there is greater flexibility with hours.

International students: Per federal law, stipends are subject to a 30% tax withholding upfront.

Domestic students: Stipends are not taxed upfront, but must be reported as income during tax season.

The process is as follows:

  1.  We provide you with the NENY Student applications database for the semester.
  2. You review the applications and directly contact and interview the relevant candidates.
  3. If both you and the student agree to proceed, notify us so we can process their stipend paperwork.
  4. The student begins work on the agreed-upon start date.

You may work with two students per semester.

Generally speaking, students in F-1 status do not CPT to participate in this initial experience. However, if a student in F-1 status was offered the opportunity to continue to work for this start-up beyond this initial experience, they would need to request and be approved for CPT prior to extending their experience. Students in this situation should consult with the ISSS.
