Upstate New York has the potential to become a thriving ecosystem for battery development, research, and innovation – and many of the pieces needed to achieve this goal are already in place. NENY’s partner ecosystem aims to connect them all.
Our partner ecosystem consists of more than 70 industry partners across 27 upstate New York counties. From universities to government agencies and a broad swath of startups, the NENY coalition connects one moving part to another in order to foster productive collaboration and a thriving community, ready to imagine better and cleaner futures.

A Cross-Sector Consortium
NENY’s coalition bridges public and private sectors across a number of disciplines with the unified goal of nurturing the entire battery lifecycle while enhancing U.S. competitiveness on a global scale. We do this by taking advantage of what’s already here in order to bring new technologies out of the lab and into the global market.
Our partners
The Activate Fellowship is a two-year, equity-free program that supports science entrepreneurs with funding, lab access, and mentorship to turn research into real-world products.
Binghamton University, in partnership with the NSF I-Corps Hub, offers customer discovery courses for clean energy innovators, with funding and in-person opportunities at the ARPA-E Summit and The Battery Show North America.
In partnership with NENY, Broome-Tioga BOCES offers a two-week Summer STEAM Academy for 7-10th graders to explore STEAM careers through hands-on projects, and a career education course at Chenango Forks High School to prepare students for the battery and energy storage industry.
In partnership with NENY, Broome-Tioga Workforce offers the Opportunity Impact Training Program (OITP) twice a year, in collaboration with SUNY Broome and others, providing participants with guaranteed job interviews after completing the four-week program.
SUNY Corning Community College’s Manufacturing Technician Program equips students with the skills needed for manufacturing jobs through 160 hours of classes, hands-on labs, and facility tours with local employers.
In partnership with NENY, IncubatorWorks offers the 12-week Co.Starters accelerator program to help entrepreneurs validate their ideas through coaching, a curriculum, and fieldwork, boosting their chances of business success in Chemung, Steuben, Schuyler, and Allegany counties.
The NY-BEST Supply Chain Database, developed with NENY, is a free resource connecting New York’s battery and energy storage companies to strengthen supply chains and uncover business opportunities.
In partnership with NENY, RIT offers free two-day seminars at its Battery Prototyping Center for U.S.-based professionals, students, and citizens. Space is limited to 35 participants per session, and spots fill up quickly.
In partnership with NENY, Southern Door Community Land Trust hosts Community Cafés focused on clean energy careers and addressing energy burdens in low-income communities. These interactive events feature expert insights, with meals and childcare provided to encourage community participation.
SUNY Broome’s Lineworker and BTECH programs prepare students for utility careers with classroom learning and hands-on training, including fieldwork and in-person labs.
The Clean Fight’s Energy Storage Capital Challenge connects funders, experts, and projects to overcome financing barriers and accelerate energy storage deployment in New York.
