Based in Binghamton, the Alliance for Manufacturing and Technology (AMT) helps small and mid-sized manufacturers grow, innovate and compete. Serving eight counties in New York’s Southern Tier, AMT delivers practical, results-driven services in growth, workforce, technology and supply chain. Over the past five years, AMT has generated $853 million in economic impact, supported more than 4,600 jobs and helped secure $785 million in new and retained sales.
As part of the NENY Supply Chain Development Team, led by NY-BEST, AMT plays a key role in growing the network of manufacturers and service providers that strengthen New York state’s capacity in battery and energy storage system production and deployment.
AMT’s contributions to NENY
- Supply chain development: Collaborates with partners to strengthen the regional supply chain for battery and energy storage technologies, supporting the growth of local manufacturers and service providers.
- Workforce development: Helps create training programs that equip workers with skills needed in the evolving energy sector, ensuring a steady pipeline of qualified professionals.
- Technology commercialization: Bridges the gap between research and market-ready products, advancing the commercialization of innovative battery and energy storage solutions.
- Industry attraction: Works with Empire State Development, NYSERDA and NY-BEST to showcase our robust network and incentives to locate new business in New York state at national and international conferences such as The Battery Show Europe and North America and SelectUSA.
Opportunities for manufacturers
From the NENY perspective, manufacturers in New York benefit most from opportunities that expand access to advanced technologies, connect companies to the supply chain ecosystem and provide workforce training aligned with emerging energy industries. These opportunities help companies increase productivity, reduce costs and accelerate the development of new products. Different funding programs are available to support training, consulting, and other capacity-building needs.
Looking ahead
AMT envisions a vibrant, fully integrated energy manufacturing ecosystem in the Southern Tier and across New York state, where research, workforce and supply chain partners work seamlessly together. This vision includes increased domestic battery production, stronger supplier networks, robust workforce pipelines and accelerated commercialization of energy storage solutions—positioning New York as a national leader in clean energy technologies.
In addition to NENY, AMT leads statewide MEP efforts in the Appalachian Regional Initiative for Stronger Economies (ARISE) Energy in Manufacturing program and the Industry 4.0 initiative, helping companies adopt advanced technologies, grow in energy-related sectors, reduce energy use, and improve competitiveness.
