A Latham company seeking to commercialize its hydrogen recycling technology has been awarded $1.8 million from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to help accelerate that process.

The funds will allow H2Pump LLC of Latham to install six hydrogen recycling devices at four sites across the state to demonstrate the energy and cost savings of capturing, purifying and recirculating hydrogen gas used in such industrial processes as metal heat-treating and semiconductor fabrication.

The hydrogen, typically released after the process, will instead by recovered and reused, reducing the cost of the hydrogen needed and the use of petroleum and other emissions from producing and transporting the gas.

H2Pump, founded in 2005, has 15 full-time and three part-time employees. The systems will be manufactured by Zeller Corp. in Rochester.
